100 Yards from Campground Beach! (1856)

Been staying at this property for many years, always a great time

My husband and I were so fortunate to have chosen this sweet little house for our first visit to Cape Cod! It was an easy walk to Campground Beach and was a great jumping off point for visits to the National Park HQ and beaches. The window A/C units kept the house cool on the hot days, and a couple of provided fans kept air moving when windows were open. Pleasantly surprised that it wasn't buggy at all, but with the great screened porch, it wouldn't have been an issue anyway. Did some laundry by hand because there was no washer/dryer, but that wasn't a big deal since we were only staying one week. Our first dinner was cooked at the house -- a pound of fresh scallops bought from The Scallop Truck (parked in a lot nearby on Rt 6 on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons). Basic groceries came from the Eastham Superette, which was super convenient, and there's an adorable farm stand with fresh produce at Lake Farm Gardens in Orleans. Lots of nearby restaurants to choose from: we went to The Friendly Fisherman and Caroline's (buck-a-shuck happy hour) in Eastham; Young's Fish Market (lobster rolls) and Sir Cricket's (fried clams) in Orleans; P.B. Boulangerie, Winslow's Tavern (our splurge dinner), and the Lobster & Chowder House in Wellfleet. We were also happy to find that there were some great sandwiches and salads at Far Land on the Beach, the concessioner at the National Seashore's Herring Cove location in Provincetown. In addition to beach time, we enjoyed the Wellfleet Drive-In and a Cape Cod Baseball League game in Orleans. This well-kept house on Shurtleff Rd was in just the right spot to launch exploration of the Outer Cape!

This was our second stay at this cottage. Everything was perfect. Only trouble was not being able to stay longer!
