Four habitats. One morning.
Join CCMNH Field Guide Karl Fryzel for a guided bird walk through marsh, meadow, woodland, and seashore on Cape Cod's Lower Cape.
Four Habitats, Four Seasons of Birds
After a brief introduction at the Museum, you'll move through marsh, meadow, woodland, and seashore—each habitat revealing its own birds and rhythms. You'll spend time looking and listening in each space, learning to spot movement in the reeds, hear calls across open fields, and recognize the songbirds of the trees. Karl will guide you through the latest birdwatching technology tools, turning your binoculars and smartphone into instruments of discovery.
What You'll Explore
Four Habitats, Four Worlds
Each ecosystem reveals its own cast of birds and seasonal rhythms.

Marsh
Herons and egrets wade through salt marsh channels, hunting in the shallows where fresh and salt water meet.

Woodland
Warblers and songbirds move through oak and pine, their calls carrying through dappled light and understory shadows.

Seashore
Sandpipers and plovers work the tide line at dawn, their quick movements and calls marking the boundary between land and sea.
Led by Karl Fryzel
Karl is a CCMNH Field Guide, an amateur birder and a Mass Audubon certified field naturalist. He's a self-educated ornithologist with numerous birding certificates including The Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Comprehensive Bird Biology Certificate. On these walks, he brings both expertise and genuine curiosity to the birds of Cape Cod's four habitats—marsh, meadow, woodland, and seashore.
